Message from the Committee.

The Hampshire RoADAR Group role is made up of an excellent team of Tutor Trainers, Committee members and others to help to make a difference in Hampshire.

The difference is ‘Safer Roads’ Have a look at the link below
http://www3.hants.gov.uk/roadsafety/road-casualty_statistics.htm

The figures can be seen with a degree of sadness. Why did so many people get injured? Could the suffering be avoided? We really do have a sad capacity destroy ourselves with such easy that we have to really work at ‘not’ destroying ourselves! Hampshire does not experience tsunamis, earthquakes, famines etc that other parts of the world do. We have it so well, but why do we take so much risk on our Roads? In our everyday life we work hard to keep ‘it safe’, but somehow we become different beasts behind the wheel! What beast are you? I find driving very calming; I relax and enjoy the motoring interactions and the changing scenery. I don’t go from A to B I go on a journey. How will you approach your next drive?

Today’s roads are becoming more and more complex as new rules and restrictions are imposed on an almost daily basis. Given that vehicles are becoming highly sophisticated there is a temptation to allow technology to take over from good old basic skills. Cars that automatically brake when closing on other vehicles and cars that are able to parallel park themselves with no human interaction are some of today’s realities.

There is a premise that the overall competency of drivers and riders is a major contributor to road deaths. The driving test only measures competency at a single point in a person’s life – unless they lose their licence of course. By undertaking advanced training and showing that you are maintaining the high levels of competency achieved following your RoADAR training by passing the test and then retaking it every three years demonstrates a commitment to the safety standards for you, your family and those around you. Improved driving and riding skills will reduce road accidents and will, in my opinion, be much more effective than simply imposing more and more technology or restrictions which slow traffic down.

The satisfaction in being able to drive, or ride, progressively while remaining justifiably confident in your own abilities to control your machine will bring satisfaction as well as a sense of pride. Your passengers will also notice the difference.

We look forward to seeing you in our meeting, but in the meanwhile ‘Good Luck’ with your training and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help
